Accident with an aircraft of the type Boeing 737 outside Teheran, Iran

An Aircraft with reportedly 167 passengers and nine crew members onboard crashed just after take off from the International Airport of Teheran. No survivors have been reported.

It has been confirmed that there were Swedish citizens among the passengers of the flight. SHK has therefore appointed an expert in the investigation, according to Article 5.27 in Annex 13 to the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation.

The investigation is conducted by the Iranian Air Accident Investigation Board. SHK has appointed Peter Swaffer as the Swedish expert in the investigation. The expert has the right to visit the accident site, have access to information that has been approved for publication by the state leading the investigation, receive information on how the investigation is progressing and receive a copy of the final report.

The investigation is being carried out by the Iranian AAIB. Relatives who have questions about the investigation are welcome to contact the Swedish expert via the authority's switchboard 08-508 862 00.

On July 11, 2020, the Iranian AAIB published a second preliminary report. It is available on their website www.cao.ir External link. and it can be found below.

On August 23, 2020, the Iranian AAIB published a factual report regarding the download of data from the aircraft's recorders (Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder).

As the investigation was not completed after twelve months, the Iranian AAIB published an interim statement on January 8, 2021.
