An aircraft of the type SAAB 2000 struck by lightning at Sumburgh airport, the Shetland Isles

On 15 December 2014, an aircraft of type SAAB 2000 was struck by lightning, just after the flight crew decision to discontinue the approach to Sumburgh Airport, Shetland Islands, due to prevailing weather conditions. The crew had the impression that the aircraft did not respond as expected and had great difficulties manoeuvring the aircraft.
