Grounding of cargo ship KERTU outside Landsort

The cargo ship KERTU (registered in Malta) was on its way from Bålsta in Sweden to Kokkola in Finland. Shortly after the pilot had disembarked outside Landsort, the ship ran aground.

The ship was able to get off the ground but was so damaged that it nearly was lost. Some of the crew members were evacuated. A major rescue operation was carried out and the ship could be bilged and then assisted to Oxelösund.
