Incidents Related to a Rainstorm in Västernorrland on 7 September, 2025

On 7 September, 2025, parts of Västernorrland County were hit by a severe rainstorm. The municipalities of Härnösand, Kramfors, Sollefteå, and Örnsköldsvik were the hardest affected.

The torrential downpours caused, among other things, two train derailments and the closure of around 40 roads. One person lost their life in a car accident where a road had been washed away. The damages, including to infrastructure, were extensive. They caused major traffic disruptions and had significant consequences for the community.

A freight train derailed outside Skorped on the Main Line Through Upper Norrland. Another freight train derailed on the Ådalen Line. The relatively new Bothnia Line was flooded, and traffic had to be halted on all three railway lines.
