Engine failure or malfunction involving a Saab 340 with registration VH-RXS, near Dubbo, NSW, Australia

An aircraft of the type Saab 340B was operated on a domestic route between Dubbo and Sydney in Australia. After departure, the flight crew observed unusual indications and detected vibrations from the right engine. The flight crew shut the engine down and returned to Dubbo. There were no injuries and the aircraft sustained damage to the engine.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau, ATSB, is investigating the occurrence.
