PAMPUS – Grounding outside Hörnefors

Two tugboats moved a barge from Norrbyskär towards Holmsund. The movement was partly in ice and PAMPUS alternated between helping to pull the barge and breaking the ice. When PAMPUS returned to assist the barge, PAMPUS ran aground and suffered a heavy list. Due to the list, water penetrated, i.a. through the ship's vents and swan necks. An unknown amount of diesel is believed to have leaked. The crew abandoned the ship and got to safety on the other tug. The vessel was then filled with water and remained on the ground until salvage could be effected.
